A property dealer in Ludhiana sustained injuries after being attacked by a group of approximately eight men who also fired several rounds at his car. The incident occurred late Wednesday evening as the victim was returning home with his mother and young son following a dinner outing.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the assailants allegedly smashed the windows of the vehicle and proceeded to assault the property dealer with a sharp-edged weapon and the butt of a pistol.
The victim, identified as Jagjit Singh, reported that he sustained injuries to his head and face. Despite the attack, he managed to drive his car, with his mother and son inside, to the Civil Hospital for immediate medical attention.
According to Singh’s account, the sequence of events unfolded as his 3.5-year-old son had briefly exited the car near the restaurant to make a payment and purchase a bottle of water. Singh stated that he heard gunshots and turned to see his son running back towards the vehicle.
As the child re-entered the car, the attackers reportedly approached the vehicle and discharged their weapons near the window. Singh alleged that he moved to shield his son, at which point the assailants allegedly assaulted him. The attack involved blows to his head with a sharp-edged weapon and the butt of a pistol.
The property dealer further claimed that the gunfire shattered the car windows and left bullet marks within the vehicle. Investigators reportedly recovered an empty .45-bore cartridge from beneath the driver’s seat, indicating the caliber of the weapon used.
Jagjit Singh expressed his belief that he recognized the individuals involved in the assault. He further alleged that the same group had previously attacked his residence and fired shots approximately a year prior. Singh suspects that an ongoing old rivalry may be the motive behind this latest incident.
The Dholewal area, where the incident took place, has seen increased police presence as investigations into the attack and the firing commence. Authorities are reportedly reviewing security footage from the vicinity and interviewing witnesses to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The attack highlights concerns over targeted violence within the city’s business community. Law enforcement officials have stated that they are pursuing all possible leads to ensure the safety of residents and to bring those responsible to justice.
