On Sunday, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered explosive material along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district’s Mendhar Sub Division.
Officials told Kashmir-based news agency KNO that a team of BSF officers, along with specially trained sniffer dog ‘Juliet,’ were on area dominance patrol near the Line of Control when the sniffer dog sat over a piece of land, raising suspicions about the presence of explosives.
According to them, the area was immediately cordoned off and searches were launched, during which the suspected piece of land was examined closely and a landmine was discovered.
“Further disposal of this explosive was done in accordance with standard operating procedures,” officials said, adding that the investigation into how this landmine came to be in the area is ongoing, with the possibility of a militant outfit carrying out an explosion to target LoC guarding troops not being ruled out.
