DLSA Bhaderwah Holds Awareness Program On Women Rights, Empowerment

District Legal Services Authority  Bhaderwah , today organised a Legal Awareness Program on “the Empowerment of Women” at Community hall Bhaderwah here today  under the guidance and Supervision of  Chairman DLSA and Secretary DLSA Bhaderwah Mudassir Farooq .  Sub Judge Bhaderwah Sumiti Sharma was also present on the occasion  who threw light on various special laws for women in India . During the awareness program Legal Rights available to women under different Statues were discussed at length with the participants by the resource persons which included Advocate Manju Sharma , Advocate Vabhu Sharma , Advocate Devyia Kotwal  and Advocate Mohd Majid Malik.

The awareness program was held by District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah  to make the Women participants aware about their Legal Rights so that they can avail those rights as and when need arises to them. The program was attended by the members of the Social Welfare department ,  CDPO office  Asha workers  and a large number of women of different Self help groups and also by Anganwari workers etc.

Advocate Mohd Majid Malik  said the  principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women.He also  a person who knows law, doesn’t need any weapon. Law itself is his weapon which makes him the most powerful person. Awareness about your rights makes you smart and just.

Only if you are aware of your rights, can you fight against any injustice meted out to you at home, at the workplace, or in the society. Advocate Mohd Majid Malik urged  ladies on the occasion   don’t be oppressed, know your rights and claim them because when one woman stands up for herself she stands up for all the women,he said .  He also said  criminal law provides for the punishments for offences committed against women like Sexual Harassment (Sec. 354A), assault with intent to disrobe her (Sec. 354B) or to outrage her modesty (Sec. 354), Voyeurism (Sec. 354C), Stalking (354D) etc.
