Four rounds of bidding concluded the first day of India’s biggest spectrum auction for 72 GHz (5G) airwaves valued 4.3 lakh crore.
There was no excess demand for any of the nine bands in any states or union territories after the first day’s four auction rounds. Across all bands and states, demand was lower than the expected.
Reliance Jio, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, Sunil Mittal’s Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and an Adani Enterprises unit all competed for the 5G spectrum, according to an NDTV report. The auction’s fifth round will start tomorrow.
The demand for radiowaves and the approach taken by each bidder will determine how many days the auction finally lasts. Although it might last up to two days, this is the general industry consensus.
