In a tragic incident that struck a somber tone on Friday, a suicide blast near the Madina Mosque in Mastung district, Pakistan’s Balochistan province, left 52 people dead so far and over 50 injured others injured. The attack occurred as people had gathered to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, a day known as Eid Milad un Nabi.
Among the victims was Mastung DSP Nawaz Gashkori, who had been on duty for the rally. As per reports, the blast, which was confirmed as a “suicide blast,” took place when the bomber detonated himself next to the DSP’s car, according to City SHO Mohammad Javed Lehri.
In the aftermath of the explosion, an emergency was declared in local hospitals, and the injured were promptly transported to medical facilities. Dr. Saeed Mirwani, the chief executive officer of Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital, reported that some of the wounded were in critical condition.
Balochistan’s interim Information minister, Jan Achakzai, expressed his condolences and stated that rescue teams had been dispatched to Mastung. He emphasized the need to maintain religious tolerance and peace in the region, denouncing the attack as an attempt to disrupt these principles. He also revealed that caretaker Chief Minister Ali Mardan Domki had issued directives to apprehend those responsible for the blast.
Interim Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti joined in condemning the attack, further underlining the gravity of the situation. Balochistan, a province in southwestern Pakistan, has been a region of concern due to ongoing security challenges, and this incident underscores the need for continued efforts to ensure peace and stability in the area.
