In a recent development, the Doda Police have detained a notorious bovine smuggler identified as Riaz Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohd Khanji, also known as Khanday. Residing in Chattroo Bhagwah of Doda district, Ahmed has a history of involvement in bovine smuggling, making him a repeated offender in the eyes of the law.
The decision to detain Ahmed under the Public Safety Act (PSA) was based on a comprehensive dossier prepared by the District Police in Doda. The District Magistrate (DM) of Doda issued the order of detention to prevent Ahmed from engaging in activities deemed detrimental to public order. Subsequently, he was confined to District Jail Bhaderwah.
Doda Police has been actively addressing the issue of bovine smuggling, launching a special drive against offenders. This year alone, 32 cases of bovine smuggling have been registered, leading to the arrest of 45 individuals. Additionally, four vehicles involved in the transportation of bovine animals have been seized, and 196 bovine animals have been rescued from illegal activities.
Underlining the seriousness of the matter, Doda Police has detained two repeated offenders of bovine smuggling under the PSA, emphasizing a firm stance against those engaged in such activities. The police authorities urge the general public to cooperate in eradicating bovine smuggling, emphasizing its potential to create law and order problems within the community.
In a stern warning to potential smugglers, Doda Police has highlighted the consequences awaiting those who continue engaging in bovine smuggling. Stringent actions, including detention under the PSA and property attachment for habitual offenders, along with the registration of FIRs, are stated as measures to be taken against those involved in this illegal trade.
