In a show of solidarity with transporters across Maharashtra, New Delhi, and various states, all passenger vehicles in the Kashmir valley are set to observe a two-day ‘Steering Chodo Andolan’ on January 9 and January 10. This decision was announced by Mohammad Shafi Mir, Chairman of the All Kashmir Transporters’ Confederation, who stated that the strike is in support of the ongoing protest initiated by transporters in other regions.
Chairman Mir confirmed that all types of passenger vehicles operating in the Kashmir valley will participate in the ‘Steering Chodo Andolan’ during the specified dates. The move is part of a broader demonstration against the recently introduced penal provisions by the Government of India concerning hit-and-run cases.
While the All JK Oil Tankers Association had earlier issued a video statement refuting any reports of a strike initiated by the association, the protest by the transporters focuses specifically on urging authorities to reconsider the punitive measures associated with hit-and-run incidents.
The nationwide protest has gained momentum with various transporters’ associations joining forces to voice their concerns. The Kashmir-based transporters’ confederation’s decision to actively participate in the ‘Steering Chodo Andolan’ reflects a unified effort to address their shared grievances with the government.
