Ramadan 1444 A.H will commence on Friday, according to Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, after the Ramadan crescent was not sighted on Wednesday evening, as per earlier reports.
However, moon sighted later and announcements were heard in mosques across Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam extended his wishes to the whole Ummah, particularly to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, on the eve of the auspicious month. He urged people to offer prayers for everyone and help the underprivileged sections of society.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind also announced on Wednesday evening that the crescent moon had not been sighted anywhere in Delhi or other parts of the country. As a result, the month of Ramzan will begin on March 24, in states of India except Jammu and Kashmir.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims around the world by fasting from dawn to dusk. It is considered to be a time of reflection, prayer, and community. Muslims observe this month as a time of spiritual discipline, purification, and increased devotion to Allah. The exact date of Ramadan varies each year and is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon.
