The Delhi Police have denied permission to the Congress party to hold a day-long sit-in protest at Raj Ghat, the Mahatma Gandhi memorial, against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as a member of Lok Sabha. The AICC general secretary, K C Venugopal, said that the Modi government has a habit of disallowing every opposition protest, and the denial of permission would not deter them from fighting for truth against tyranny.
Senior Congress leaders, including AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, were planning to sit on a satyagraha at Rajghat on Sunday. Sit-in protests were also being planned in front of Mahatma Gandhi statues in all states and district headquarters from 10 am to 5 pm.
Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha after a Surat court sentenced him to two years in jail in a defamation case. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “scared” and not wanting him to make another speech on industrialist Gautam Adani in Parliament.
The Congress party has been at odds with the Modi government over a variety of issues, including the farm laws and the fuel price hike. The party has been protesting against these issues and seeking justice for farmers and the common man. However, the government has been denying permission for their protests, citing various reasons.
The denial of permission for the Congress party’s protest at Raj Ghat has sparked a controversy, with many questioning the government’s commitment to freedom of speech and expression. The opposition parties have criticized the government for stifling dissent and not allowing peaceful protests.
The Congress party has vowed to continue its fight against the Modi government and stand up for the rights of the people. The denial of permission for their protest has only strengthened their resolve to fight for justice and truth.
