Families of the victims of the Dhangri terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district have threatened to migrate from their village to a “safer” place and return the ex gratia amount if the government fails to catch the attackers and bring them to justice. The terrorists had targeted villagers on January 1 and fled before planting an improvised explosive device, killing seven people and injuring 14 others.
Saroj Bala, who lost two sons in the attack, expressed her frustration with the lack of progress in the case and said that unless the attackers are produced before them, they won’t sit quietly. She slammed the government for shifting Rajouri SSP Mohammad Aslam and demanded justice for the victims’ families.
Dhangri sarpanch Deeraj Kumar also urged the government to bring the terrorists and their supporters to book and threatened to launch an agitation if justice is not provided. He appealed to the J&K lieutenant governor to retain the present SSP and incumbent SHO till the logical conclusion of the case.
The families of the victims have made it clear that they do not need compensation, weapons, or security in the village. They want justice and the perpetrators of the heinous crime to be punished. They have threatened to migrate to a safer place if the government fails to catch the attackers.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the transfers and postings of two IPS officers with immediate effect. It appointed SSP (crime), Kashmir, Amritpal Singh as the new SSP of Rajouri, while Aslam has been posted as commandant, JKAP 13th Battalion. However, the families of the victims have demanded more concrete actions and justice in the case.
