DLSA Bhaderwah Conducts Awareness Programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bhaderwah organized a day-long awareness programme on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” at Government High School Nagar Bhaderwah today. The event was part of the Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child. The programme aimed to shed light on the legal aspects and significance of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative.

The Chief Guest of the occasion, Secretary DLSA (Sub Judge) Romesh Lal, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) initiative. He underlined that the judiciary is committed to supporting women’s welfare and empowerment. Secretary DLSA (Sub Judge) Romesh Lal highlighted various flagship programmes aimed at promoting the well-being of women.

Advocate Mohd Majid Malik, the resource person for the programme, delivered the welcome address and elaborated on the role of legal services in facilitating justice for girl children. He emphasized that the DLSA plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between justice and underprivileged sections of society.

Advocate Mohd Majid Malik also brought attention to the two key reasons behind the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” scheme, namely the rising crime against women and the issue of low sex ratio. He pointed out that according to Constitutional law, women have equal rights as men, ensuring their active participation in the country’s administration. He highlighted Article 14, which embodies the principles of equality before the law and equal protection of laws. Additionally, he drew attention to Article 39, which directs the State’s policy towards securing equal means of livelihood and equal pay for equal work for both men and women.

During the programme, Advocate Mohd Majid Malik also informed the audience about relevant legal provisions, including Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C). Participants expressed gratitude for the DLSA’s efforts in organizing the awareness campaign, recognizing the valuable contributions of all PLVs (Para Legal Volunteers) involved.

The event witnessed the active participation of the Headmaster, teachers, and students of Government High School Nagar Bhaderwah. The attendees lauded the DLSA’s initiative in promoting the cause of girl child welfare and gender equality.

The awareness programme on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” conducted by DLSA Bhaderwah was a significant step towards empowering women and ensuring their rights and safety. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in building a more equitable and just society.
