Home Minister Amit Shah Reviews Jammu & Kashmir Security in High-Level Meeting

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) today, focusing on strengthening the security grid and addressing recent attacks.

The meeting comes after a series of targeted attacks on security forces in the Union Territory, including the December 21st incident where four soldiers were killed in Poonch. Shah reviewed the functioning of the security apparatus, including the area domination plan, zero-terror strategy, law and order situation, and cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

He emphasized the need for complete area domination and improved coordination among police, army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in J&K. Additionally, Shah underscored the importance of bolstering local intelligence to provide timely and actionable information.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General Dinkar Gupta, and Director Generals of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF). Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and J&K also participated.

Notably, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande were also present, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

This meeting follows a similar security review held by Shah in January 2023, where he emphasized the government’s “zero tolerance” policy against terrorism. He reiterated this commitment during today’s meeting, stating that all security agencies are engaged in a decisive battle against terrorism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

The rise in militancy, particularly in the Pir Panjal region, remains a concern. Sources within the security wing point to several recent ambushes on soldiers, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and targeted operations.
