RAJOURI, Dec 8 – A 40-year-old man and three of his children have died, while his wife and another daughter remain critically ill, due to suspected food poisoning in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, officials said on Sunday.
Fazal Hussain and his family, residents of Badhal Gorla village, were rushed to Rajouri Government Medical College late Saturday after experiencing severe dyspepsia, authorities said. Hussain succumbed to the illness early Sunday during treatment.
His wife, Shamim Akhter, 38, and their four children were transferred to a hospital in Jammu for specialized care. However, three children—Rabia Kousar, 15, Farmana Kouser, 12, and Rafter Ahmad, 4—died despite medical efforts. Akhter and another daughter, Ruksar, 12, remain under treatment, officials added.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kotranka, Dil Mohd, said an inquest has been launched to determine the exact cause of death. “We are investigating all possibilities, including food contamination,” Mohd said.
The incident has shocked the remote community, with local authorities urging vigilance regarding food safety. Further details will emerge following the police investigation, officials stated.
