xAI to Launch ‘Grokipedia’ Beta as Wikipedia Rival

SAN FRANCISCO — Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has confirmed that an early beta version of “Grokipedia,” an AI-powered encyclopedia designed to compete with Wikipedia, will be launched within the next two weeks.

The platform is being developed by Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, which also created the Grok chatbot.

Musk announced the timeline on Sunday, October 5, 2025, via his official X account. The upcoming release is described as “version 0.1 early beta of Grokipedia,” according to details received by The Chenab Times.

Musk has promoted Grokipedia as a “massive improvement over Wikipedia,” arguing that the existing global encyclopedia suffers from ideological bias and “falsehoods,” as reported by Reuters. The primary goal of the project, according to Musk, is a necessary step toward xAI’s larger objective of “understanding the universe.”

Grokipedia is expected to use xAI’s Grok AI model to generate, organize, and update knowledge. Proponents suggest the platform will leverage AI to analyze sources, correct “half-truths,” and add missing context to information.

The announcement comes as major technology companies, including those training large language models, increasingly rely on Wikipedia as a key data source. Grokipedia is intended to be an “open source knowledge repository,” Musk stated.

Experts have noted that any AI-driven encyclopedia trained on human-generated data, or guided by a centralized agenda, may face challenges in achieving true neutrality. The final features and actual capabilities of Grokipedia’s early beta remain to be fully confirmed by xAI.
