JAMMU, Mar 30: Approximately 150 Principals, Lecturers, and Teachers are being transferred back to their original positions within the School Education Department (SED) to improve academic activities in Gurez and other remote rural regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision aims to streamline educational operations and ensure equitable access to learning for students in these underserved areas.
Detachment Initiative for Gurez and Rural Schools
The initiative was announced by the Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo, in the Legislative Assembly during the Zero Hour. The move comes in response to a concern raised by Legislator Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi) regarding the shortage of teaching staff in the Gurez area. Minister Itoo emphasized that the detachment process is crucial for the smooth functioning of educational institutions and to guarantee that students in far-flung areas receive an education comparable to those in more accessible regions.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the Director of School Education, Kashmir, has been instructed to expedite the detachment process. Particular attention is being given to districts including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Srinagar. The officials are tasked with facilitating the return of these educators to their original places of posting. This measure is expected to fill critical vacancies and enhance the quality of instruction in schools facing teacher shortages.
Transfer Policy Restrictions
In conjunction with this re-deployment, the Education Minister clarified that the department will not entertain any further representations regarding transfers, with specific exceptions. Such exceptions will only be considered in cases of genuine health emergencies or for reasons related to marriage. This restrictive policy aims to ensure that the re-deployment efforts are not undermined by additional transfer requests and that the focus remains on addressing the immediate staffing needs in Gurez and other rural locales.
The decision to redeploy educators reflects the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, particularly in areas that have historically faced challenges in attracting and retaining qualified teaching staff. By reassigning teachers to their initial postings, the department intends to leverage their familiarity with local educational needs and to ensure a more stable and experienced teaching workforce in affected areas. The process is expected to be completed efficiently to minimize disruption to the ongoing academic year.
