The Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir has suspended four teachers from Middle School Namblan for allegedly remaining absent from their duties without authorised leave. The action was initiated following a complaint that highlighted chronic absenteeism among the teaching staff at the institution.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that a committee, comprising two lecturers, was formed to conduct a surprise inspection of the school. During this inspection, it was found that out of the five teachers posted at the Middle School Namblan, only one was present. The remaining four, identified as Ayaz Ahmed, Mohd Jahangeer, Vikram Bali, and Mushtaq Ahmed, were absent and had not obtained any sanctioned leave for their absence.
The inspection also revealed significant administrative and academic shortcomings. The report noted a low turnout of students on the day of the visit, with only 28 out of 123 enrolled students in attendance. The overall functioning of the school was described as being in a state of disarray.
In response to these findings, the CEO Rajouri, Mohammad Hafeez, termed the teachers’ absence as “gross misconduct, negligence, and dereliction of duty.” Citing Rule 31 of the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956, the CEO ordered the immediate suspension of the four educators.
An official order issued by the Chief Education Office of Rajouri stated that while suspended, the teachers would be entitled to subsistence allowance as per the existing rules. Further arrangements have been made for the attached staff during their suspension period.
Teacher Vikram Bali has been attached to the Government Primary School Jabber Dhara in Zone Doongi. The other three suspended teachers, Ayaz Ahmed, Mohd Jhangeer, and Mushtaq Ahmed, will remain attached to Middle School Namblan itself, pending further decisions and arrangements by the education department.
