SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo inaugurated the Jammu and Kashmir Security Operations Centre (JK SOC) on Thursday, a significant development aimed at bolstering the Union Territory’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the newly established facility is designed for continuous monitoring, early threat detection, and swift incident response, crucial for safeguarding critical government digital infrastructure and sensitive data against evolving cyber threats.
During the inauguration, Chief Secretary Dulloo emphasized the growing importance of robust cybersecurity measures in tandem with the rapid digitization of government services across the Union Territory. He highlighted the JK SOC’s role as a central hub dedicated to protecting digital assets and ensuring the secure and uninterrupted delivery of e-governance services to citizens.
The JK SOC has been equipped with state-of-the-art tools facilitating real-time threat intelligence gathering, comprehensive vulnerability assessments, and advanced security analytics. Furthermore, the centre will collaborate with national cybersecurity agencies, including the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), to ensure effective management of cyber incidents across Jammu and Kashmir.
Anil Kumar Sharma, Senior Director at the National Informatics Centre (NIC), provided a detailed overview of the operational capabilities and functions of the new centre during the official launch event. The presence of senior officials underscored the administration’s commitment to enhancing digital security.
Among the dignitaries present at the inauguration were Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary (Financial Commissioner) Revenue; Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Piyush Singla, Secretary IT; VTV Ramana, Director General NIC; Mahima Madan, CEO of the Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency; and J S Modi, SIO NIC JK.
The establishment of the JK SOC marks a proactive step by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to address the increasing complexities of the digital landscape and potential cyber risks. Its round-the-clock operations are expected to provide a significant layer of security for government systems and citizen data.
