Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cautioned BRICS nations against the weaponization of technology and critical minerals, stating that such actions could impede global progress and shared prosperity. Speaking at the BRICS summit on Sunday, he emphasized the need for collective action to address escalating geopolitical tensions that are adversely affecting ordinary citizens worldwide.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Prime Minister Modi highlighted the critical juncture the world faces, marked by increasing geopolitical instability, pandemics, climate disasters, and supply chain disruptions. He asserted that in an interconnected world, no crisis remains localized and that BRICS must unite to foster inclusive growth, particularly for the Global South.
Addressing leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Prime Minister Modi outlined India’s focus during its presidency. He stated that efforts have been concentrated on four key pillars: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. He expressed satisfaction that these efforts, with the cooperation of member states, have translated a shared vision into mutually beneficial outcomes.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of enhancing resilience within the BRICS grouping. He noted that timely identification of challenges, preparedness, and swift action are essential in the current global climate. In line with this, a consensus has been achieved on establishing a BRICS Integrated Early Warning System aimed at the prevention and response to infectious diseases.
Furthermore, guidelines for an early warning data integration mechanism have been developed. The BRICS logistic supply chain cooperation framework is expected to bolster the reliability and resilience of supply chains among member nations. Under the innovation pillar, the BRICS incubator network is set to connect startups and incubators, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for new ventures.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated the collective responsibility of BRICS nations to tackle challenges confronting the Global South. He observed that the confidence of the Global South in the BRICS bloc has seen a notable increase, underscoring the group’s growing significance on the international stage.
