SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha initiated a significant anti-drug campaign stride on Saturday, leading a ‘Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir Campaign’ padyatra in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir. The initiative underscored the urgent need for a unified and collective societal effort to combat the escalating challenge of drug abuse.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that during an address to a public gathering at the event, Lieutenant Governor Sinha emphasized that the pervasive issue of drug addiction could only be overcome through coordinated action and the active participation of all societal strata. He stated that every segment of society must unequivocally voice the dangers associated with drug addiction, asserting that collective endeavors and public engagement are paramount to achieving victory in this critical fight. The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted that remaining silent on this issue is no longer an acceptable option.
He further advocated for a comprehensive ‘whole-of-society approach,’ calling for the involvement of families, educational institutions, social organizations, sports bodies, and local communities to effectively address the multifaceted challenge of substance abuse. Lieutenant Governor Sinha suggested that schools, colleges, villages, municipal wards, sports grounds, and cultural platforms should be transformed into hubs for awareness generation and resistance against drug misuse.
The Lieutenant Governor appealed to citizens to lend their full support to the government’s ongoing efforts aimed at establishing a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir and safeguarding the younger generations from the detrimental impacts of substance abuse. The padyatra witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse group, including senior civil and police officials, students, traders, members of civil society, and the general public. This broad-based participation signified widespread support for the anti-drug campaign.
The ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir’ campaign, conceptualized as a 100-day initiative, was launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in April 2026. It is envisioned as a large-scale, public-led movement designed to foster a drug-free society. The campaign’s strategy encompasses multiple facets, including intensive awareness programs, strict enforcement measures against drug traffickers, and the provision of rehabilitation support for individuals affected by addiction.
The Lieutenant Governor’s presence and active leadership in the padyatra in Anantnag served to reinforce the administration’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and fostering a healthier community across the Union Territory.
