Chennai: Tamil Nadu has recorded an impressive overall pass percentage of 94.31 per cent in the Class 10 board examinations for the year 2026. The results, declared on May 20, 2026, indicate a strong performance by students across the state.
Girls Outperform Boys in Class 10 Examinations
The data released by the Directorate of Government Examination, Tamil Nadu (TNDGE) reveals that girls have once again excelled, achieving a pass percentage of 96.47 per cent. This significantly surpasses the pass rate of 92.15 per cent recorded among boys.
Performance Trends and Historical Context
The overall pass percentage this year shows an increase compared to previous years. In 2024, the pass rate was 91.55 per cent, followed by 91.39 per cent in 2023 and 90.07 per cent in 2022. Notably, Tamil Nadu had achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in both 2021 and 2020, a period influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic when alternative assessment methods were employed. The pass rate in 2026 stands higher than last year’s 93.80 per cent.
Examination Details and Pass Criteria
The Class 10 SSLC examinations in Tamil Nadu for 2026 were conducted from March 11 to April 6, 2026. Over nine lakh students appeared for these examinations. To pass the examinations, candidates were required to secure a minimum of 35 per cent in each subject and an aggregate of 35 per cent across all subjects. For students who did not meet the passing criteria, supplementary examinations are scheduled to be conducted within a few weeks.
District-wise Performance and School Achievements
Pudukkottai district emerged as the top-performing district in the Tamil Nadu SSLC Result 2026, achieving the highest pass percentage of 97.57 per cent. Sivagangai district followed closely with a pass rate of 97.54 per cent, while Thanjavur secured the third position with a commendable pass percentage.
Further highlighting the academic success, a total of 5171 schools across the state recorded a perfect 100 per cent pass rate, reflecting the dedication of both students and educational institutions.

Students who appeared for the Tamil Nadu SSLC Class 10 exams can check and download their results and marks memos from the official websites: tnresults.nic.in and dge.tn.gov.in. The results are also available on the DigiLocker portal.
