Jammu and Kashmir Police Attach Properties Worth Rs 5 Crore in Drug Trafficking Crackdown

Srinagar, May 23: In a significant development in the ongoing campaign against narcotics, Srinagar Police on Friday attached immovable properties valued at approximately Rs 5 crore across Srinagar and its adjacent districts. The action is part of the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan – 100 Days Campaign,” aimed at dismantling the financial infrastructure supporting drug trafficking in the Valley.

Properties Linked to Drug Peddlers Seized

According to police officials, the attached assets include residential houses that are alleged to have been acquired using proceeds from illegal narcotics trade. This move is a part of sustained efforts under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that multiple properties belonging to alleged drug peddlers and narcotics traffickers have been targeted. Among these are residential houses belonging to Bilal Ahmad Sheikh and Aneek Ahmad Sheikh, residents of Larbal Beerwah in Budgam. These properties, comprising a single-storey and a double-storey residential house valued at around Rs 80 lakh, are linked to FIR No. 37/2024 registered at Police Station Saddar Srinagar under the NDPS Act.

In another key action, a double-storey residential house valued at nearly Rs 1 crore in Mini Colony Chanapora was attached in connection with a narcotics case registered at Police Station Chanapora. Furthermore, a three-storey residential house with an attic in Jawahar Nagar, owned by Mohsin Ibrahim Naqash, was also seized. This property, estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore, is connected to FIR No. 42/2026 registered at Police Station Saddar Srinagar under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Srinagar Police also attached a three-storey residential house belonging to Farhan Manzoor Pandit of Kursoo Rajbagh, implicated in a drug trafficking case registered at Police Station Rajbagh. The market value of this property is approximately Rs 50 lakh. Additionally, a double-storey residential house in Bakshiabad Bemina, owned by Abid Hassan Dar, was attached. This action relates to FIR No. 18/2022 of Police Station Batamaloo and involves multiple sections of the NDPS Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The property is valued at nearly Rs 1.7 crore.

Legal Framework and Intensified Anti-Narcotics Measures

The property attachments were executed under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, following the completion of necessary legal formalities. The process was conducted in the presence of executive magistrates, revenue officials, and independent witnesses, ensuring adherence to legal procedures. Police investigations have reportedly established that these properties were acquired through illicit drug trafficking, underscoring the financial motive behind the criminal network.

This latest enforcement action is part of intensified anti-narcotics measures implemented by Srinagar Police over recent months. The “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan” has seen a significant increase in raids, arrests, property seizures, and preventive actions targeting drug peddlers and organized narcotics networks operating within Srinagar and other districts of the Union Territory. Authorities have also utilized the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act to book several alleged drug traffickers, with dozens of properties linked to narcotics proceeds being attached to disrupt the economic backbone of the drug trade.

Beyond enforcement, Srinagar Police have been actively conducting awareness campaigns in educational institutions, local communities, and public spaces. These initiatives aim to educate youth about the dangers of substance abuse and to encourage community participation in identifying and reporting drug peddlers. Officials have emphasized the police department’s “zero tolerance” policy towards narcotics trafficking and substance abuse, which is considered a growing threat to the region’s society and its youth.

The police have appealed to the public to share any information related to drug peddling or substance abuse with the nearest police station, assuring strict confidentiality for informants. A police spokesperson stated that any individual found involved in drug trafficking or related unlawful activities would face stringent legal action, including the attachment and forfeiture of their illegally acquired assets.
