Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended his greetings to citizens nationwide on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, commonly known as Bakrid. The festival, celebrated with prayers and traditional observances across various parts of India, was marked by the Prime Minister’s wish for the occasion to foster a stronger spirit of brotherhood and bring happiness to society.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Prime Minister Modi conveyed his wishes through a post on the social media platform X. In his message, he expressed hope for the well-being of all citizens. “Eid-ul-Adha greetings! May this occasion deepen the spirit of brotherhood and happiness in our society. Praying for everyone’s success and good health,” the Prime Minister stated.
Eid-ul-Azha commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. It is one of the two major Islamic holidays, the other being Eid-ul-Fitr. The festival involves the ritualistic sacrifice of an animal, typically a goat, sheep, or cow, with the meat then distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate. The observance is a significant religious event for Muslims globally, emphasizing themes of sacrifice, faith, and community.
In India, the festival is observed with considerable enthusiasm, particularly in states with significant Muslim populations. Mosques and open grounds across cities and towns hosted large congregational prayers, especially in the morning. Families gathered to partake in special meals and exchange greetings. The celebration highlights the cultural diversity and religious harmony prevalent in the country. Security arrangements were put in place by authorities in various regions to ensure peaceful celebrations and manage the large gatherings.
The Prime Minister’s message underscores the inclusive nature of national festivals and the importance of communal harmony. By extending greetings, the Prime Minister reinforces the government’s commitment to celebrating the diverse cultural and religious fabric of India. Eid-ul-Azha serves as a reminder of shared values and the importance of collective well-being, contributing to the social cohesion of the nation. The ongoing celebrations reflect the enduring traditions and spiritual significance of the festival for millions of people.
