Kurnool police have arrested 18 individuals in connection with acts of vandalism that occurred during celebrations following the Indian Premier League (IPL) final match. The arrests were made on Monday night after a victory parade for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) turned violent on Sunday.
Celebrations Escalate to Vandalism
Following RCB’s IPL title win, numerous young cricket enthusiasts took to the streets of Kurnool to celebrate. The festivities, however, took a turn for the worse as a section of the crowd began vandalizing government property and damaging a private travel bus, including breaking its windshields. The incidents occurred near the Raj Vihar Centre in Kurnool city. Some individuals were also reported to have removed police barricades and driven vehicles recklessly, causing disruption to public movement.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the vandalism extended to several buses belonging to the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), with windows being damaged. Private vehicles and roadside establishments also reportedly suffered damage.
Investigation and Arrests
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Kurnool II Town police registered a case based on complaints from affected parties. The police initiated an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the affected areas, videos circulated on social media, and other technical evidence to identify those responsible for the destruction of property. The District Superintendent of Police, Vikrant Patil, directed officials to identify and take strict legal action against the culprits.
Based on the evidence gathered, police identified 18 individuals allegedly involved in the vandalism. These individuals were paraded from the Kurnool II Town police station to the court under tight security on Monday. The procession through parts of the city drew attention from local residents and business owners.

Kurnool police officials emphasized that celebrations cannot be used as a pretext for damaging public or private property. They issued a stern warning that strict action would be taken against those involved in such incidents. The investigation is reported to be ongoing, with the possibility of further questioning and arrests if additional evidence emerges.
