Delhi Man Arrested in Himachal Pradesh Fatal Hit-and-Run Case

A 29-year-old man from Delhi has been arrested in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district for allegedly causing the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident. The accused, identified as Vikrant Vij of Karol Bagh, New Delhi, is alleged to have struck a local resident with his car, dragged him a significant distance, and then reversed over him, resulting in the pedestrian’s death.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the incident occurred on Monday in the Farm area along Naggar road. The victim, 60-year-old Ram Krishan, a local resident, was reportedly walking along the roadside when the fatal collision took place. Eyewitnesses described the vehicle as a speeding Swift car registered in Delhi, carrying at least two other occupants besides the driver.

According to eyewitness Om Prakash, he was on his way to the town when the car, reportedly playing loud music, overtook him. Prakash stated that he observed two young men and a woman inside the vehicle, and that they appeared to be consuming beer and that the driver seemed intoxicated. He further alleged that the driver was operating the vehicle on the wrong side of the road at the time of the impact.

The accused driver allegedly struck Ram Krishan, dragging the victim approximately 25 feet before reversing the car and running over him a second time. The impact resulted in the immediate death of the pedestrian. Following the incident, local residents intervened and managed to apprehend Vij as he attempted to flee the scene.

Police were promptly alerted and arrived at the location. The body of the deceased was taken into custody for a post-mortem examination. Kullu Superintendent of Police Madan Lal Kaushal confirmed that a case has been registered against Vikrant Vij. The legal proceedings are being conducted under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Statements from witnesses have been recorded as per Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

SP Kaushal stated that the main accused, Vikrant Vij, has been arrested. Investigations are ongoing, and the other occupants of the vehicle are currently being questioned by the authorities to ascertain their involvement and gather further details about the sequence of events leading to the fatal accident.
