SRINAGAR, June 6: Authorities in Srinagar have attached properties valued at approximately ₹3.5 crore, identified as belonging to two individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking. The action is part of an intensified crackdown on the narcotics trade and aims to dismantle assets believed to be funded by illicit drug sales.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the attached properties include an immovable asset valued at around ₹1.30 crore in the Nigeen police station area. This property, a double-storey residential house with land located at Habbak Crossing in Hazratbal, is reportedly owned by Rahil Manzoor Malla. The attachment was carried out under Section 68(F)(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In a separate operation, the Soura police station attached a residential house worth approximately ₹2.20 crore. The property, situated in Keel Khan Gali, Upper Soura, is alleged to belong to Adil Rashid Gudoo, who is reportedly engaged in illicit drug trafficking. This attachment was also executed under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act.
Police sources indicated that during the course of investigations, both properties were identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking. The formal attachment orders have been issued, prohibiting the owners from engaging in any sale, transfer, lease, alienation, alteration, disposal, or creation of third-party interests in these properties pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.
This action underscores the administration’s commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking within the Union Territory. The ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’ initiative seeks to eradicate the drug menace through a multi-pronged approach, including the seizure of assets derived from illegal activities. Authorities have emphasized that such measures are crucial in disrupting the financial networks of drug peddlers and discouraging further involvement in the trade.
The NDPS Act provides for the attachment and forfeiture of property derived from or suspected to be involved in drug trafficking. This legal framework empowers law enforcement agencies to target the financial underpinnings of the drug trade, aiming to make it economically unviable for those involved.
The Srinagar police have maintained a steady pace in their operations against drug traffickers, with multiple seizures and arrests reported in recent months. The focus remains on identifying and prosecuting individuals involved in the supply chain of narcotics, while also targeting the illicit wealth accumulated through such activities. The attached properties will be managed by the authorities until further court orders are issued.
