Bandipora, June 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah undertook a comprehensive review of developmental initiatives and progress in the north Kashmir district of Bandipora on Monday. The visit, accompanied by ministers and advisors, focused on assessing the implementation of last year’s development plan and addressing local concerns raised by elected representatives.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Chief Minister convened a meeting to scrutinize the district’s developmental landscape. Discussions centered on identifying areas where the implementation of the previous year’s plan faced shortcomings and pinpointed specific sectors requiring enhancement. Local Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Gurez, Bandipora, and Sonawari actively participated, presenting the expectations, demands, and critical issues of their respective constituencies.
In response to the concerns articulated by the MLAs, Chief Minister Abdullah assured the local leadership that the government would extend all possible support to address the identified gaps. “They have been assured that we will do whatever is possible from our end,” he stated, emphasizing a commitment to facilitating progress in the district.
A significant issue brought to the fore during the review was the operational status of the Bandipora District Hospital. Although the hospital relocated to a new building in 2019, it has yet to receive official designation as a District Hospital. Chief Minister Abdullah acknowledged that this matter was a key point of discussion during the meeting.
Minister Sakina Itoo, who joined the proceedings virtually from Jammu, provided assurances regarding the hospital’s administrative status. She conveyed to the MLAs and other attendees that any pending formalities or departmental actions required to formalize the District Hospital status would be completed by her ministry.
When questioned by reporters about recent national political developments, including the stances of the DMK and Shiv Sena, Chief Minister Abdullah deflected the inquiries, choosing to maintain the focus on the developmental agenda for Bandipora. He stated that it was not appropriate for him to comment on the future actions of these parties, attributing their decisions to their own consciences.
Clarifying the position of his own party, the National Conference, Abdullah affirmed that the party’s Members of Parliament would not support any particular course of action, without specifying the context of the national political developments alluded to. He reiterated that the decisions of other political entities were their own to make.
The review meeting underscored the administration’s focus on granular developmental oversight, aiming to ensure that developmental projects translate into tangible benefits for the residents of Bandipora and other districts across Jammu and Kashmir.
