SRINAGAR: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan arrived in Srinagar on Saturday to chair a high-level security review meeting, assessing preparedness for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Home Secretary reviewed security and logistical arrangements with senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Police, Army, Central Armed Police Forces, and intelligence agencies. The deliberations focused on evaluating the comprehensive security grid and operational readiness along both the traditional Pahalgam and the shorter Baltal pilgrimage routes.
This review occurs amidst intensified security preparations across Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have been seen escalating area domination exercises, route sanitisation operations, and counter-militancy surveillance measures, particularly in districts connected to the annual pilgrimage.
Discussions during the meeting reportedly centred on crucial aspects such as deployment plans for personnel, security protocols for convoys, intelligence-sharing mechanisms between different agencies, established emergency response systems, and robust disaster management preparedness. Arrangements for pilgrims at transit and base camps were also a significant point of discussion.
Officials briefed the Home Secretary on the measures being undertaken to ensure the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. These include the provision of adequate healthcare facilities, reliable communication networks, efficient transportation services, and essential rescue infrastructure to support the expected influx of devotees.
In the preceding weeks, a series of security audits, mock drills, and joint exercises have been conducted. These operations involved the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and various other agencies, aiming to enhance coordination among all stakeholders in anticipation of the Yatra.
The annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath cave shrine is slated to commence simultaneously from the traditional Pahalgam route, situated in Anantnag district, and the Baltal route, located in Ganderbal district, on July 3.
These review meetings form an integral part of the ongoing efforts by authorities to guarantee a secure and seamless pilgrimage experience for all devotees anticipated to participate in the Yatra this year.
