Srinagar/Jammu: The government has extended the summer vacation for all schools operating in the Kashmir division and the winter zones of the Jammu division until July 22, a decision attributed to prevailing heat conditions and an inclement weather advisory.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the extension applies to both government and recognized private educational institutions. The revised end date for the vacation is Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
The announcement was made via a post on X by the Minister for School & Higher Education. The statement indicated that the decision was taken in view of the current weather patterns affecting the region.
The prevailing high temperatures have prompted authorities to keep schools closed for an extended period, ensuring the safety and well-being of students amidst the summer heat. Simultaneously, an advisory concerning potentially inclement weather further underscored the need for caution and the extension of the holiday period.
The winter zones of Jammu division, which typically experience colder climates and have a different academic calendar compared to the Kashmir division, are also included in this vacation extension. This measure aims to standardize the break for educational institutions in areas with similar climatic considerations during the summer months.
The extension comes at a time when schools are usually preparing to resume their regular academic sessions after the annual summer recess. The decision reflects the administration’s responsiveness to environmental factors that could impact student attendance and health.
