Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: Police in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district have attached ten immovable properties valued at approximately Rs 8 crore, identified as belonging to alleged drug peddlers. The action is part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking under the ‘Nasha Mukti Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan’ initiative.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the properties were attached by the Police Station Nowhatta under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These assets were reportedly acquired through proceeds from illicit drug trafficking, according to police statements.
The attached residential properties are located in various areas of Srinagar, including Zahidpora Sheikh Colony Hawal, Tujgari Mohalla Sheikh Colony Nowhatta, Androoni Kathidarwaza, Kathidarwaza Rainawari, and Barthana Qamarwari. The structures range from single-storey to four-storey houses, built on plots measuring between four and seven marlas. Each property has an estimated individual value between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 95 lakh.
Police officials stated that the attachments were made in connection with multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against the property owners under various provisions of the NDPS Act. This move is intended to disrupt the financial operations of drug trafficking networks and to confiscate assets allegedly accumulated through the illegal narcotics trade.
A police spokesperson emphasized the commitment of Srinagar Police to the ‘Nasha Mukti Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan’, stating that stringent legal action will continue against drug peddlers and all individuals involved in the narcotics ecosystem. The police have also urged the public to support the anti-drug campaign by reporting information related to narcotics trafficking to the nearest police station or through dedicated helplines. Assurances were provided that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to combat the menace of drug trafficking and its associated illicit financial activities. The focus on attaching properties is a key strategy to dismantle the economic backbone of these criminal enterprises, thereby aiming to reduce the accessibility and availability of narcotics within the region.
