A doctor serving at the Central Jail in Goindwal Sahib, Punjab, has been arrested by jail authorities following the recovery of 997 drug capsules, two mobile phones, and cash during a search operation.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the accused doctor has been identified as Anmolpreet Singh, a resident of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar district. The arrest occurred as the doctor was entering the jail premises, triggering suspicion among the officials.
Under the supervision of Jail Superintendent Manjit Singh, a thorough search was conducted on Dr. Singh. During this search, a packet was allegedly found concealed beneath clothing wrapped around his body. Upon inspection, the packet was found to contain 997 drug capsules.
Further investigation during the search led to the recovery of two touchscreen mobile phones. These devices were reportedly hidden inside the doctor’s shoes. In addition to the capsules and phones, Rs 2,630 in cash was also seized from his possession.
Following the discovery, a case has been registered against the doctor. The charges filed include Sections 22-B, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and Section 52-A of the Prisons Act, 1894. These sections pertain to the possession and distribution of drugs and offenses related to prison administration.
The accused doctor was presented before a local court, which ordered his one-day police custody. Authorities are currently conducting an in-depth investigation into the origin of the recovered contraband. The probe also aims to determine whether the drugs and mobile phones were intended for distribution to inmates within the jail premises.
