Aurangabad, Maharashtra – Parents of Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the satirical youth movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have expressed relief and pride following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The resignation, which came after months of student-led protests demanding accountability, particularly concerning alleged irregularities in national examinations, was seen by Dipke’s parents as a significant victory for the movement their son leads.
Anita Dipke, mother of Abhijeet, stated that students had been fighting for Pradhan’s resignation for two and a half months, and that this development was a testament to their perseverance. She described her son’s journey as one of patient struggle, noting that he had faced significant criticism and vilification. His father, Bhagwan Shankar Dipke, a retired civil engineer, marked the occasion with a visit to a local temple to pray for the country. Anita Dipke also mentioned having a video call with her son, who described the situation as having “gone a bit viral.” Initially, she had reservations about her son’s activism but came to support his fight for students’ rights.
Abhijeet Dipke, a political communication strategist and digital activist, gained prominence after launching the Cockroach Janta Party in May 2026. The movement emerged as a satirical response to remarks made by the Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, who reportedly compared unemployed youth to “cockroaches” during a court hearing. What began as a meme-driven online campaign rapidly evolved into a nationwide movement demanding reforms in the education system and accountability for alleged examination paper leaks, notably concerning the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) examinations.
Dipke, who earned a Master of Science in Public Relations from Boston University after completing his undergraduate degree in journalism from Pune, previously volunteered with the Aam Aadmi Party’s social media team between 2020 and 2023. His background in political communication and digital campaigning, honed through work on meme-based digital campaigns for young voters, provided a foundation for the CJP’s strategy of using satire and humor to mobilize public support.
The CJP’s activism has centered on issues of youth unemployment, systemic flaws in the education sector, and calls for greater transparency and accountability from the government and educational bodies. The movement has organized protests in various cities, including Delhi, Pune, Lucknow, Amritsar, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. Dipke himself has been a visible leader at the protest sites, advocating for peaceful demonstrations while maintaining pressure on the authorities.
Despite the movement’s growing influence and public support, Dipke’s parents have expressed anxieties about his involvement in activism. Bhagwan Shankar Dipke, who had always envisioned a career for his son in the civil services, noted that no one in their family has ever been involved in politics. Anita Dipke voiced her desire for her son to focus on building a stable career, rather than pursuing a path in politics, which she fears could lead to trouble.
The resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister, a key demand of the CJP and other student groups, marks a significant development in the ongoing protests. The CJP’s ability to coalesce widespread frustration among the youth into a visible and vocal movement has been a defining aspect of recent public discourse surrounding education and governance in India.
