A 10-year-old girl has been abducted and subsequently murdered in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district, with police apprehending a Dial 112 constable as the prime suspect. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, prompting outrage and demanding swift justice.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the victim, a resident of Gorakhpur for the past four years, was at the district hospital to deliver food to her elder sister, who had been admitted on July 27 due to illness. The tragedy unfolded when the younger sister, after finishing the meal, left the hospital around 9:00 PM and failed to reach home, sparking an immediate search by her family, who then alerted authorities via Dial 112 and filed a police complaint.
During the initial investigation, the elder sister recounted that a man in police uniform had approached them while they were eating, striking up a conversation under the guise of asking for directions. According to her statement, the man offered to escort both sisters home on his motorcycle. Despite the elder sister’s refusal of the offer, the individual reportedly persisted, particularly with the younger girl. CCTV footage later corroborated that the accused followed the victim after she left the hospital.
CCTV Footage Leads to Constable’s Arrest
Analysis of CCTV footage captured from the hospital premises and surrounding areas proved crucial in the investigation. The visuals showed the suspect leading the young girl away on a motorcycle. Police were able to identify the vehicle through its registration number, which led them directly to the Dial 112 constable. The constable, identified as Abhishek and a native of Ghazipur, was promptly taken into custody.
Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that the arrested constable has a prior criminal record. He had reportedly been arrested and imprisoned approximately a year ago in connection with rape and forgery charges. This history has intensified public concern and demands for strict accountability.
Family Demands Harshest Punishment
The victim’s father, an e-rickshaw driver who moved his family from Azamgarh to Gorakhpur four years ago, expressed his grief and anger. “My daughter went to the hospital to deliver food to her elder sister. A policeman lured her away and abducted her from there. We want justice, and the accused must be given the harshest possible punishment,” he stated, echoing the sentiments of many in the community.
SSP Confirms Confession and Dismissal Proceedings
Dr. Kaustubh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gorakhpur, confirmed the swift action taken by the police. “Acting on the initial leads, our teams promptly analysed the CCTV footage, which led us directly to the suspect. The accused constable, Abhishek, was taken into custody and has confessed to the crime during interrogation,” Dr. Kaustubh said. He added that the victim’s body had been recovered, and departmental proceedings to dismiss the accused from service had been initiated.
Further details from the police confirmed that the verification of the vehicle’s registration number linked it to Dial 112 constable Abhishek. “During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder,” the SSP stated. Police indicated that the accused had abducted the girl with malafide intent. The confirmation of sexual assault will be established upon the receipt of the post-mortem report. Authorities have assured that strict legal action is underway, and formal procedures for the accused constable’s dismissal from service have been expedited.
