Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the alarming scenes, captured and shared by Gram Panchayat Dahar Pradhan Bilam Chajjta, depict villagers wading through turbulent waters, transporting children on their backs to navigate the crossing. The seasonal stream in question serves as a vital lifeline for more than 25 households spread across two nearby villages, providing their only access for daily necessities. The visuals were reportedly taken a few days prior, under clear morning skies, when some children were being taken for vaccinations. However, by their return journey, the water level had risen dramatically, forcing parents into the dangerous act of carrying their children through the rapidly flowing water.
Gram Panchayat Dahar Pradhan Bilam Chajjta emphasized that this problem resurfaces annually with the onset of the monsoon. He made an urgent appeal to both the government and the administration to expedite the construction of a footbridge to ensure the safety of the villagers, especially the children. Mr. Chajjta stated, “More than 25 families from two nearby villages are dependent on this crossing for their daily needs, while small children also have to use it to reach school. Every monsoon, the rising water turns this route into a death trap. The government and administration must construct a footbridge here on priority so that villagers, especially children, do not have to risk their lives.”
Residents have voiced their deep dissatisfaction with the recurrent difficulties faced during the rainy season due to the absence of adequate facilities. They allege that despite the annual nature of the problem and the inherent dangers, no permanent solution has been implemented by the authorities to ensure safe passage across the stream.
