Bathinda, Punjab – An Independence Day ceremony in Bathinda was marked by unsettling moments as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jyoti Yadav and two women constables experienced dizziness attributed to the intense heat and humidity. The event, held at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Stadium, also saw a public disagreement between a local MLA and the president of the Punjab Cricket Association.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that SSP Jyoti Yadav began to feel unwell while standing near Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, who was addressing the assembled crowd. She reportedly attempted to move away from her position but succumbed to dizziness. NCC cadets and plainclothes female constables promptly assisted her, escorting her to a makeshift medical room established at the venue.
Addressing the situation later, Minister Mundian stated that the SSP was in stable condition and that her unwellness was due to low blood pressure. Mundian was the chief guest for the district-level Independence Day celebrations and was responsible for unfurling the national flag.
Adding to the day’s unexpected events, a vocal altercation occurred between Jagroop Singh Gill, the Bathinda Urban MLA, and Amarjit Mehta, the president of the Punjab Cricket Association. The dispute, which unfolded in the presence of numerous officials, elected representatives, and dignitaries, was eventually mediated by Bathinda Rural MLA Amit Rattan Kotfatta, who intervened to de-escalate the situation.
Questions were also raised by some attendees regarding the timing of the national flag unfurling ceremony, with claims circulating that it occurred prior to the scheduled time. Minister Mundian, however, refuted these allegations. He asserted that the ceremony had not been conducted prematurely and suggested that any perceived difference in timing might have been a matter of mere seconds.
Minister Mundian further elaborated on the measures taken to mitigate the impact of the adverse weather conditions. He indicated that his speech had been shortened and that the administration had opted not to involve very young children in the proceedings, prioritizing their well-being given the prevailing heat and humidity.
