CJP Demands Arrests in West Bengal After Volunteer’s Father Dies Following Alleged Assault

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has demanded the immediate arrest of individuals allegedly responsible for an assault in West Bengal that resulted in the death of a volunteer’s father. The incident reportedly occurred after the volunteer visited a government school as part of the CJP’s “School Thik Karo” campaign.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Janab Mafik, father of CJP volunteer Shaik Abdul Hafeez, died on Saturday from severe head injuries sustained during an alleged attack at their residence. The incident has prompted the CJP to call for swift action against the perpetrators.

The CJP stated that the assault took place in the Karisunda area of Bankura district on August 13, following Hafeez’s participation in the nationwide “School Thik Karo” Abhiyan. This campaign aims to assess and highlight deficiencies in government school infrastructure.

According to the CJP’s statement, armed individuals identified as local BJP workers allegedly forcibly entered Hafeez’s residence later that evening. Hafeez, 25, reportedly recounted from the hospital in a video that a school teacher had informed political workers about his civic inspection, which then led to the subsequent attack.

The alleged assailants reportedly demanded that Hafeez record a video retracting his assessment of the school’s condition and claiming he had acted under external influence. When Hafeez refused to comply, the individuals are alleged to have violently assaulted his family. Hafeez sustained a severe neck injury, while his father suffered critical blunt-force trauma to the head.

Following the assault, Hafeez, concerned for his safety and that of his family, recorded a video documenting his injuries from the hospital and subsequently relocated to Kolkata. His father succumbed to his injuries on August 15.

CJP founder and national convener Abhijeet Dipke stated, “We will not be silenced and intimidated. We will keep fighting for better schools. CJP stands firmly with Abdul and his family. We demand the immediate arrest of those responsible for his father’s death.” Dipke also announced that a CJP team would visit West Bengal to ensure justice for the family.

The “School Thik Karo” campaign, launched by Dipke, encourages citizens to inspect government schools, document their conditions, and bring any shortcomings to public attention, with the goal of pushing for improvements in school infrastructure and educational quality. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das condemned the incident, describing it as an “extremely condemnable act” and suggesting that the attackers were “anti-school and anti-intellectual.”

Das further informed that a CJP National Working Committee delegation, led by co-convener Ashutosh Ranka, was scheduled to travel to West Bengal on Monday to meet with Abdul and his family. The delegation’s objective is to press the police for the strictest punishment for those accused of the attack. The CJP emphasized its commitment to standing with the family until justice is served.

The CJP also raised concerns regarding the initial response to the incident, alleging that no medico-legal case was initiated and no First Information Report (FIR) was registered following the assault. The organization has called for an impartial investigation into the alleged violence, the circumstances surrounding Mafik’s death, and the purported failure to initiate due legal proceedings.

The organization further demanded immediate action from the Indas police station to apprehend the individuals accused of the attack and to ensure the continued safety of Hafeez and his family members. The CJP reiterated its stance against violence and hooliganism as means to achieve objectives, advocating instead for the pursuit of education and intellectual progress.
