The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated an examination of land-related records belonging to the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) as part of its ongoing investigation into Ritesh Properties and Industries Ltd. Officials confirmed on Wednesday that GLADA officials appeared before the agency and submitted the requested documentation.
Summons Issued for Land Approval Documents
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the officiating Chief Administrator of GLADA, Vikas Heera, was summoned to appear before the ED’s Jalandhar Zonal Office on August 19. The summons specifically requested documents pertaining to approvals granted to Ritesh Properties and Industries Ltd., along with details concerning the officials who were involved in the approval process.
The documents submitted to the agency reportedly include the comprehensive approval file related to the company, as well as information regarding transactions with the Department of Town and Country Planning. These requests were made under Sections 50(2) and 50(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), which grant the ED the authority to call for documents and examine individuals in connection with investigations.
ED Scrutinises Punjab Land Records
A GLADA official stated that the team from the authority cooperated fully with the ED and provided all available documents. The agency is currently scrutinizing these records as part of its broader investigation into land and property dealings in Punjab. The ED has been actively examining such records across the state, with development authorities being a key focus for documentation requests.
The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority has indicated its willingness to furnish any further records that the ED may require as the investigation progresses. The ED’s probe into Ritesh Properties and Industries Ltd. is part of a wider effort to ensure compliance and investigate potential financial irregularities within property development and land transactions in the region.
The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, is a criminal law enacted to prevent money laundering and to provide for the confiscation of property derived from money laundering. The ED, established in 1956, is a law enforcement agency and intelligence agency responsible for enforcing economic laws and fighting financial crime in India. Its mandate includes investigating economic offenders and property, and assisting in the recovery of assets.
The examination of GLADA records by the ED underscores the agency’s commitment to thorough investigation into financial irregularities. The process involves meticulous review of approvals, transactions, and the roles of officials involved in facilitating such developments. The ED’s actions are aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in land development projects, particularly when large-scale property transactions are involved.
This development highlights the stringent oversight mechanisms in place for land development authorities and the regulatory scrutiny applied to companies engaged in substantial real estate ventures. The ED’s ongoing investigation is expected to provide clarity on the propriety of the approvals granted and the financial dealings of Ritesh Properties and Industries Ltd.
