On August 19, Lal visited several jewellers in the Greater Kailash M-Block Market. Later that evening, he proceeded to Karol Bagh and parked his SUV on Arya Samaj Road, opposite Canara Bank, at approximately 5:30 PM. Lal, his son, and the employee then left the bags and suitcase inside the vehicle before heading to a nearby Bikanervala restaurant for dinner.

Upon their return at around 7:15 PM, they discovered that the rear window of their car had been smashed. The three backpacks and the suitcase, which were left inside, were missing. Information was available with The Chenab Times that the stolen backpacks contained gold and diamond jewellery, a laptop, and Aadhaar cards, while the suitcase held clothes.

The complainant stated that the stolen jewellery alone was valued at over ₹2 crore, in addition to other personal and business-related items. Following the report, Delhi Police initiated an investigation into the matter.

Police teams are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the Karol Bagh area in an effort to identify the individuals involved in the theft. Investigators are also examining the movements of Lal and his companions before and after they parked the vehicle to determine if they were followed by the suspects. This approach is a standard procedure in such cases to trace the perpetrators’ modus operandi and potential escape routes.

The stolen items were reportedly contained within three backpacks. The contents included a significant quantity of gold and diamond jewellery, a laptop, and Aadhaar cards. The theft occurred despite the items being secured within a parked vehicle, highlighting a sophisticated or opportunistic method by the thieves.

Further investigation is ongoing, with police working to identify the accused and recover the stolen valuables. Authorities have detained three individuals for questioning in connection with the case. Among those detained are two siblings and the owner of a motorcycle that was identified in CCTV footage near the scene. However, the precise nature of their involvement is still under investigation.

In a similar incident reported on August 18, the day before this major jewellery heist, two men on a motorcycle allegedly stole gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from a jewellery shop employee’s scooter. That incident occurred at a traffic signal in Chankyapuri, where the employee was en route from Karol Bagh to Vasant Kunj. The assailants approached on their motorcycle, snatched a bag containing jewellery from the employee’s scooter, and fled. These repeated incidents underscore concerns regarding safety and security within the city, particularly for those involved in the jewellery trade.

The police are conducting a thorough analysis of CCTV footage to trace the route taken by the motorcycle used in the recent theft. The detained individuals are being questioned to gather more intelligence about the operation and to potentially recover the stolen goods. The investigation remains active, with a focus on apprehending those responsible and preventing future occurrences.

The broader context of such incidents in Delhi points to challenges in maintaining law and order in crowded commercial areas. While police efforts are underway, the recovery of such a high-value theft remains a priority for the Delhi Police department.

The businessman and his associates are cooperating with the authorities in the investigation. The incident has raised concerns among the business community about the security of valuable goods while in transit or temporarily stored in vehicles.
