KISHTWAR, May 22 (The Chenab Times) — An encounter broke out between militants and security forces on Thursday in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, local officials said.
The gunfight began after a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs indicating militant presence in the region.
“As the search operation intensified, terrorists opened fire, prompting retaliatory fire from the forces,” a police official said on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing operation, as per reports.
Preliminary reports suggest that three to four militants may be trapped in the area. The operation was ongoing at the time of reporting.
No casualties have been officially confirmed yet. Further details are awaited.
