Man donates land for public health facility in J&K’s Phagsoo

A resident of a remote village in Doda district has voluntarily donated one kanal of land for construction of a First Aid Centre, aiming to improve access to basic healthcare in the area.

A resident of Phagsoo village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district has donated one kanal of his land to the government for the construction of a First Aid Centre, reflecting a rare instance of individual civic initiative to strengthen rural healthcare infrastructure.

According to official records, Rafi Ahmed, a resident of Phagsoo in Phagsoo tehsil, has transferred land measuring one kanal (20 marlas) to the Revenue Department for use by the Health Department. The donation has been made without any demand for compensation, employment, or other benefits, now or in the future.

The land, recorded under Khasra number 566, will be used exclusively for establishing a First Aid Centre to serve Phagsoo and adjoining habitations, where residents currently depend on distant health facilities for even basic medical assistance. In an affidavit submitted to the authorities, the donor has stated that the land has been given of his own free will and that he will not raise any objection during construction or future use of the facility.

The document further clarifies that ownership and possession of the land will vest with the Health Department and that any dispute relating to title or encumbrance, if it arises later, will be the sole responsibility of the donor.

Officials in the local administration confirmed that the affidavit has been executed for official processing of the land transfer and that further steps will be taken as per procedure for establishing the health facility.

Public health infrastructure remains uneven across rural Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in hilly and remote areas such as Doda district. Local residents have long demanded improved access to primary healthcare, especially emergency and first-response services.

The proposed First Aid Centre is expected to provide immediate medical support and reduce dependence on far-off hospitals, once construction is approved and completed.
