Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, including an Inspector and a Sub-Inspector, sustained injuries when they were reportedly attacked by locals during a raid in the Gujjar Basti area of Supwal in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday.
The incident occurred when the BSF team entered the area for a search operation based on intelligence regarding drug-related activities. Official sources indicated that the personnel involved were not in uniform at the time of the raid.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the injured officers have been identified as Inspector Imtiaz and Sub-Inspector Devender. Both sustained injuries during the confrontation with local residents.
The injured personnel were immediately transferred to a nearby medical facility for necessary treatment. Authorities have reportedly taken cognizance of the incident, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
The raid was aimed at disrupting suspected drug trafficking networks operating in the region. Intelligence inputs had pointed towards the Gujjar Basti area as a potential hotspot for such activities, prompting the BSF to conduct the operation.
However, the operation encountered resistance from some local residents, leading to the physical altercation in which the two BSF officers were injured. The specifics of the confrontation and the identities of the individuals involved in the attack are part of the ongoing investigation.
The Samba district police are expected to provide further details as the investigation progresses. The injured officers are reported to be stable and receiving medical attention.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir while conducting operations against illegal activities, particularly in sensitive areas. The authorities are expected to address the situation and ensure accountability for those involved in the attack.
