SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned 64 new positions to ensure the full operationalization of the newly inaugurated 120-bed additional block at the Bone and Joint Hospital. The announcement was made by the Health Minister, who stated that the creation of these posts, with concurrence from the Finance Department and the Council of Ministers, will significantly strengthen healthcare services at the facility.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the sanctioned posts aim to provide comprehensive staffing for the expanded block, which was expedited for completion and inauguration under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Initially, services at the new block were managed through internal arrangements, but the formal approval of these positions marks a crucial step towards making the facility fully functional and accessible to the public.
The newly created positions encompass a wide range of medical, technical, administrative, and support staff. In the medical cadre, the approvals include four Senior Residents in Orthopaedics, along with one Senior Resident each in Medicine and Surgery. The Radiology department will receive three Senior Residents, and the Microbiology department will have one. Furthermore, three Resident Medical Officers and three Casualty Medical Officers have been appointed to bolster emergency and routine patient care.
Significant administrative and technical augmentations are also part of the sanction. Positions have been created for administrative personnel such as Accountant, Accounts Assistant, Head Assistant, Section Officers, and Junior Assistants. The technical staff appointments include Anaesthesia Technicians, Theatre Assistants, Blood Bank and Lab Technicians, Physiotherapists, X-ray technicians, and ECG technicians, all vital for the smooth functioning of specialized medical services.
The nursing and auxiliary staff roles are also being strengthened. The hospital will see the appointment of Theatre Nurses, Senior and Junior Grade Nurses, and a Lady Health Visitor. Additionally, a substantial number of support staff, including attendants and orderlies, have been sanctioned to ensure efficient patient management and facility upkeep.
The Health Minister highlighted that this decision underscores the government’s commitment to not only developing healthcare infrastructure but also ensuring that such facilities are adequately staffed and equipped to meet the needs of the population. The move is expected to enhance the quality of care and reduce waiting times for patients seeking specialized orthopedic and joint-related treatments in the region.
