Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is preparing to host its 39th convocation ceremony on April 7 in the national capital, marking a significant academic milestone for thousands of graduating students across its extensive network.
The main event, scheduled to take place in New Delhi, will be graced by the presence of the Vice-President of India, CP Radhakrishnan, who will deliver the convocation address as the chief guest. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, will attend as the guest of honour. Both dignitaries are slated to confer Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees and gold medals upon meritorious students during the ceremony.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the convocation will not be confined to New Delhi alone. The university has orchestrated parallel participation from 51 of its regional centres and five overseas centres, underscoring its broad academic reach and commitment to inclusive commemoration for its students irrespective of their geographical location.
Senior public figures are also expected to lend their presence at various regional centres. Goa’s Governor, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, will join the proceedings from the regional centre in Panaji, while Tripura’s Governor, Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, will participate from Agartala. This strategic presence of governors at regional hubs aims to maintain a sense of uniformity and national significance across all participating locations.
For a vast number of students, the convocation represents the formal culmination of years of dedicated study, often undertaken while balancing professional duties and personal commitments. The university has articulated that the ceremony is not merely a ritual but a significant landmark, reflecting the graduates’ perseverance, dedication, and academic pursuits over their course of study.
