Doda SSP Emphasizes Tourist Safety, Communal Harmony in Bhaderwah Valley

JAMMU: The newly appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Doda district, Kartik Shrotriya, has identified the paramount importance of maintaining peace, fostering brotherhood, and ensuring foolproof security for tourists, particularly in the high-altitude tourist destinations of Bhaderwah valley, as his immediate priorities.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Shrotriya, who assumed charge of Doda district following a significant reshuffling of police administration by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 2, stressed the need to create a secure environment for visitors, deeming it crucial for sustaining the region’s famed hospitality and fostering economic growth.

Speaking to reporters, Shrotriya highlighted his specific focus on Bhaderwah, drawing parallels to his previous posting as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Anantnag, where he joined shortly after a notable militant attack in Pahalgam. He underscored that tourist security and social coordination, including maintaining communal harmony among locals, must be upheld rigorously.

The SSP recalled the challenging period in Anantnag after the Pahalgam attack, expressing that witnessing the impact on locals who relied heavily on tourism for their livelihood was a painful experience. He voiced his hope that such a situation, arising from communal discord or militancy, would not recur anywhere in India, especially within Jammu and Kashmir.

With a commitment to cultivating an ecosystem free from militancy, Shrotriya articulated his resolve to concentrate on expanding business opportunities through tourism activities. He appealed for public cooperation and assistance to achieve this objective, emphasizing that a thriving tourism industry is contingent on the collective effort of the community.

Urging residents to contribute to making the scenic Bhaderwah valley a more appealing destination for visitors, Shrotriya stated that this can only be achieved through the sharing of inputs, information, and truthful insights regarding individuals who pose a threat to national security or social order. He posited that there is no alternative pathway to ensure the continued prosperity of the region’s burgeoning tourism sector.

Addressing the security landscape surrounding the elevated tourist spots in Bhaderwah valley, the SSP acknowledged that security provision in such areas is a dynamic and evolving field. He assured that continuous engagement and coordination meetings with the civil administration and other security forces are conducted to maintain an up-to-date assessment of the security measures being implemented, ensuring that tourists can fully experience the natural beauty of the region without concern.
