SRINAGAR: Sopore Police have booked six individuals under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) for their alleged involvement in instigating unrest and acts of vandalism during a recent student protest in Sopore. The action underscores a firm stance against elements deemed to be disturbing public order and safety in the district.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the individuals identified are Umar Akbar Hajam, son of Mohammad Akbar, resident of Seelu; Salman Ahmed Shala, son of Mohammad Ramzan Shala, resident of Shalpora Sopore; Altaf Ahmed Sheikh, son of Mohammad Rajab Sheikh, resident of Panzipora Tarzoo; Mubashir Ahmed Gilkar, son of Fayaz Ahmed Gilkar, resident of Naseerabad Sopore; Muzammil Mushtaq Changa, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Changa, resident of Arampora Sopore; and Majid Firdous Dar, son of Firdous Ahmed Dar, resident of Chinkipora Sopore.
These individuals were reportedly detained under PSA after obtaining proper detention warrants from the competent authority, the District Magistrate. Following their detention, they have been lodged in District Jail Bhadarwah.
According to police statements, these individuals were actively involved in inciting disturbances, engaging in vandalism, and attempting to disrupt peace during a recent student demonstration. Their actions were described as posing a serious threat to public order and the safety of citizens.
Sopore Police have reiterated their policy of zero tolerance towards any unlawful activity that threatens the peace and stability of the district. The police also indicated that further investigations are underway to identify more individuals involved in the incidents, with similar legal actions, including detention under PSA, being processed.
Authorities have issued a stern warning, stating that any attempt to exploit sensitive situations or engage in acts that disturb public order will result in strict and immediate legal action. The public, particularly the youth, have been advised to refrain from participating in or being instigated by anti-social elements engaged in unlawful activities.
Parents and community leaders have been urged to play a role in guiding their wards and ensuring their engagement in constructive activities. Sopore Police expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation and support from the peace-loving citizens of Sopore in maintaining normalcy and order within the district.
