A special court in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years of imprisonment for obtaining forged Indian identity documents, securing a fake passport, and illegally registering land in West Bengal. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Abdul Amin.
The sentencing was delivered by Special Judge Ramkripal on Monday, May 11, 2026. The case against Amin, who originates from a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, was initiated on March 14, 2023. A complaint was filed by Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari of the ATS Varanasi unit at the Kotwali police station in Ballia.
The charges were registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Foreigners Act. It is alleged that Amin, with the assistance of individuals in Ballia, fraudulently acquired Indian identity documents. Based on these forged documents, he managed to register land in his name in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.
Furthermore, Amin procured an Indian passport using the fraudulent credentials and subsequently traveled to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on two separate occasions. Following an investigation into the matter, the police filed a chargesheet against Amin in the court.
After reviewing the evidence presented and hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, the court found Amin guilty of the charges. The court’s decision highlights the ongoing efforts to combat the misuse of forged documents and illegal immigration within the country.
Further investigations have been conducted into the network that allegedly facilitated Amin’s acquisition of Indian documents. The case underscores the legal ramifications for individuals involved in passport fraud and other related offenses.
