Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign across the state, urging citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes to commemorate Independence Day. The campaign, which aims to foster patriotism and a sense of national pride, has been designated as a mass movement with a target of unfurling the Tricolour at 50 million households this year.
During a review meeting on preparations for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, Independence Day celebrations, and Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized that the initiative is more than just a campaign; it is a national movement connecting every citizen with patriotism, respect for the National Flag, and India’s glorious history. He stressed the importance of broad public participation to transform it into a people’s movement, ensuring the flag flies with dignity at every home.
Uttar Pradesh has previously set a precedent for the entire country in making the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a grand success through unprecedented public participation. The Chief Minister directed that all government, semi-government, aided departments and institutions, local bodies, educational institutions, Gram Panchayats, fair price ration shops, industrial and commercial establishments, and social organisations should hoist the Tricolour on their buildings. He also mandated the screening of the National Anthem and the National Song in all cinema halls across the state on August 14 and 15.
Information available with The Chenab Times indicates that the campaign has seen steady growth over the years. In 2022, the National Flag was hoisted at over 41 million households. This figure rose to over 45 million households in both 2023 and 2024, and reached 47.6 million households in 2025. To ensure the timely production, availability, and distribution of National Flags, the Chief Minister instructed officials to involve Self-Help Groups, Khadi and Village Industries institutions, MSME units, and local production centres. The flags are to be made easily accessible to the public through fair price shops and Gram Panchayat buildings.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, launched under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in 2022, encourages citizens to bring the Tiranga home and hoist it to mark India’s Independence Day. The initiative aims to strengthen the feeling of patriotism and promote awareness about the Indian National Flag. Across the nation, the campaign is scheduled to be celebrated from August 9 to August 15, 2024. The Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced that this third edition of the campaign has become a people’s movement, embraced by diverse segments of society. In 2022, over 23 crore homes hoisted the national flag, with more than 6 crore people uploading selfies. In 2023, over 10 crore selfies were uploaded. Various states and Union Territories are actively participating, with key industry partners, including e-commerce platforms, railways, and the armed forces, also playing a role in disseminating information and promoting the campaign.
A special Tiranga Bike Rally featuring Members of Parliament is scheduled to take place in Delhi on August 13. The rally will commence from Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, and conclude at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, passing through India Gate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his recent Mann Ki Baat address, urged citizens to hoist the Tiranga at their homes and continue the tradition of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, which has garnered significant public participation in the past two years.
In Gujarat, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel initiated the campaign by hoisting the national flag at his residence, with plans to distribute approximately 40 to 50 lakh Tiranga flags across the state. The campaign includes various activities such as Tiranga rallies, processions, runs, concerts, and pledge ceremonies. Major government buildings, railway stations, bus terminals, airports, public places, prominent markets, and major intersections will be decorated with the tricolour theme. Schools and colleges are organizing exhibitions on freedom fighters, patriotic song competitions, and other activities to connect the younger generation with the nation’s freedom struggle.
