SRINAGAR: Five government schools in Srinagar district have been equipped with new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories as part of a corporate social responsibility initiative. The project, funded by NTT DATA and implemented by ELFA International, aims to enhance digital literacy and learning opportunities for students.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, officially inaugurated the facilities on Tuesday. The inaugural ceremony took place at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Nawakadal, which is one of the five beneficiary institutions. The other schools to receive ICT labs are Government Boys High School, Dara; Government Boys High School, Panzinara; Government Boys High School, Bakshipora; and Government Girls High School, Balhama.
Following the primary inauguration, Deputy Commissioner Labroo engaged virtually with students and faculty members from the four other schools. He encouraged the students to leverage the new technological resources to improve their learning outcomes, develop digital skills, and gain broader exposure to modern technology. Labroo emphasized the significant role digital tools can play in boosting student motivation, reinforcing fundamental academic competencies, and expanding educational horizons, particularly for students in institutions with limited access to digital infrastructure.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed his appreciation for NTT DATA’s contribution through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and for ELFA International’s efforts in implementing the project on the ground. He noted that such collaborations are vital in complementing the government’s ongoing endeavors to strengthen the infrastructure of public education.
Labroo further elaborated that the initiative extends beyond merely integrating technology into classrooms. He highlighted its importance in fostering new avenues for students to cultivate the skills and self-assurance necessary to thrive in an increasingly digitized global landscape. He advocated for enhanced cooperation between the administration, the corporate sector, and the local community, suggesting that concerted efforts can lead to the creation of more equitable educational opportunities and contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.
He also extended a request to ELFA International to consider implementing similar projects in other areas within the Srinagar district, indicating a desire for wider reach and impact. Nawab Mehran Khan, CEO and President of ELFA International, stated that the core objective of the ICT lab initiative is to establish an environment conducive to students developing digital awareness, fostering curiosity, building confidence, and acquiring practical technological skills.
Khan added that ELFA International remains committed to collaborating with corporate partners, including NTT DATA, and the local administration to pursue initiatives focused on generating long-term social impact and reinforcing technology-enhanced education systems. The event was attended by several key officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioners Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz and Aadil Fareed, IAS Probationer Aakash Garg, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Personnel Officer DSEK Iqbal Hussain Mir, Chief Education Officer Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Bhat, Principal of GGHSS Nawakadal Dr. Benazir Chalku, along with senior representatives from ELFA International, teachers, and students.
