Jammu and Kashmir: IGP Kashmir Reviews Security Preparedness in Baramulla, Sopore

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Sujit Kumar conducted a comprehensive review of the security apparatus, counter-militancy grid, and law and order preparedness across Baramulla and Sopore districts.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the IGP’s visit involved separate meetings with senior police officials to assess operational effectiveness and strategize future security measures. He was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Dr. Vinod Kumar.

The IGP began his visit by paying homage to fallen heroes at the Martyrs’ Memorial, District Police Lines Baramulla, honouring their sacrifices. Subsequently, a detailed review meeting was held at Baramulla.

During the Baramulla meeting, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh provided a briefing on the prevailing security situation, ongoing counter-militancy operations, intelligence gathering, area domination strategies, and the security of vulnerable locations. The meeting also covered law and order preparedness and the crime statistics for the district. Gazetted officers from the District Police Baramulla were present, presenting their perspectives and updates on their respective areas of responsibility.

IGP Kashmir Sujit Kumar placed significant emphasis on strengthening grassroots-level intelligence generation. He urged for the execution of targeted, intelligence-led operations against militants and the entire militant ecosystem. The IGP stressed the importance of maintaining sustained operational pressure, adopting a proactive and coordinated approach among all security formations. Effective surveillance, refined naka and interception mechanisms, and close coordination were highlighted as crucial elements for success.

As part of his itinerary in Baramulla, IGP Kumar also inspected Police Station Baramulla. He reviewed its functioning and impressed upon the officers and personnel to uphold professional and responsive policing standards. This included ensuring effective crime prevention and investigation, meticulous record maintenance, and prompt resolution of public grievances.

Later, the IGP proceeded to Police District Sopore. There, SSP Sopore Iftikhar Talib, along with SDPOs and DySPs Operations, presented a comprehensive briefing detailing the current security landscape and the measures being implemented across various operational fronts.

Concluding his tour, IGP Kashmir commended the dedication and efforts of the police officers and personnel in both Baramulla and Sopore districts. He encouraged them to continue their work with unwavering professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the residents.
