An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale struck Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir early Friday morning. The tremors were felt at around 5:01 am IST and had a depth of 30km.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to The Chenab Times, no reports of any damage or casualties have been reported so far.
The experts stated that the earthquake occurred due to the tectonic movement in the Himalayan region. Jammu and Kashmir is known to be a high-risk zone for earthquakes and has witnessed several major quakes in the past.
As per reports, the tremors were felt in nearby areas, including Kishtwar and Bhaderwah.
The earthquake in Doda is a stark reminder of the need for preparedness and readiness to tackle natural disasters. The local administration must take immediate steps to create awareness about safety measures during such events.
