In an effort to address the energy needs of the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has put forth a proposal to construct a natural gas pipeline connecting Jammu and Srinagar, according to a news report of The Economic Times. This initiative aims to bolster the region’s energy infrastructure and facilitate the supply of natural gas to meet the growing demands of the area.
To ensure comprehensive stakeholder participation and gather valuable inputs, the PNGRB has initiated a public consultation process for the proposed pipeline. The regulatory body has invited comments from all concerned parties within a month, seeking their insights on the suggested route as well as the carrying capacity of the pipeline.
The planned pipeline is designed to link with the existing Gurdaspur-Jammu natural gas pipeline, enabling a seamless flow of natural gas to the union territory. By tapping into this established network, the proposed pipeline will enhance the accessibility and availability of natural gas resources for Jammu and Srinagar, while simultaneously creating a more robust energy infrastructure for the region.
As part of the project, the PNGRB aims to leverage the connectivity provided by the Gurdaspur-Jammu pipeline, which already facilitates the transportation of natural gas. By leveraging this existing infrastructure, the proposed pipeline can receive gas from the Gurdaspur-Jammu line, further enhancing the energy supply for Jammu & Kashmir.
